September 12-14, 2017 at Camp Tadmor
This retreat is for women whose husbands are in pastoral or missionary ministry including those between churches, widowed or in retirement.
Our speaker: Kari Patterson
Kari Patterson is a beloved daughter of God, and her life's aim is to please her Father. She is married to Pastor Jeff, and together they raise two quirky kiddos and lead Renew Church in Oregon City. She holds a Master's degree in Pastoral Studies from Multnomah Seminary, speaks at women's conferences, writes at www.karipatterson.com, and recently released her first book, Sacred Mundane. Over the past 16 years Kari has worked as a single church staff worker, married church staff worker, seminary wife, church intern's wife, associate pastor's wife, church-planting wife, and lead pastor's wife. (All the same husband, don't worry.) She's looking forward to discussing the challenges of these various roles, learning from seasoned ministry wives who have walked this way before, and re-focusing on Jesus, finding rest for our souls.
The joke used to be that pastors' wives' must play the piano and teach Sunday School. But although most modern ministry wives have thrown off those archaic assumptions, there are still plenty of unspoken expectations, relational complexities, physical demands, and cultural pressures that can create a crushing combination capable of wearying the most stalwart ministry wife. Together let's look-again-to Jesus and find rest for our souls. Let's slip off ill-fitting expectations and slip on His yoke, learning His humble ways, and rediscovering the joy and unique opportunity we have to strengthen our congregations through the grace that He gives. This is, after all, His Story, so let's rediscover the privileged part we get to play.
"Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on [being a Pastor's Wife]? Come to me. Get away with me and you'll recover your life. I'll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me-watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn to live freely and lightly." Matthew 11:29 The Message
